Two Formats, One Event
The event combines a standard half marathon -- 21.1K, 10K and 5K distances -- with a duathlon option, at AEON Mall Kulai Jaya, Johor. [1] That dual-format structure is genuinely uncommon among the races covered in this research batch, which are almost entirely pure running events -- the duathlon component adds a run-bike-run (or similar) variant for participants wanting a different physical challenge.
Kulai: A Landlocked District Nearly the Size of Singapore
Kulai is the district capital of Kulai District, Johor, established in 1890 and one of only three landlocked districts in Johor. [2] The district covers 753.75 square kilometres -- slightly smaller than Singapore -- and sits within the Iskandar Malaysia economic zone, giving the area genuine economic development momentum alongside its historical Hakka-Chinese settlement roots.
A Familiar JomRun Structure
As with the KL Half Marathon and Tebrau City Half Marathon covered elsewhere in this research batch, this event is organised via JomRun, giving it a tested registration and race-day framework even for a less internationally known Johor town.
A Mall-Anchored Venue
AEON Mall Kulai Jaya provides built-in parking, shelter and amenities for both the running and duathlon components -- consistent with the mall-anchored venue pattern used across several other races in this research batch.
Should You Run It?
If you want the option to try a duathlon alongside a standard half marathon at a single event, Mercedes BR Jaya on 15 November 2026 is a genuinely distinctive pick in Johor. Register before the 14 November deadline, given JomRun's consistently tight registration windows.
