The Course: An Undulating Loop Through Banjarbaru
The race starts and finishes at the South Kalimantan governor's office complex in Banjarbaru [1]. On the half-marathon map posted on the race website, the first 6 km wind around the roundabouts of the government complex, with two U-turns. The route then heads out along Jalan Aneka Tambang and Jalan H. Mistar Cokrokusumo, runs west along Jalan Trikora past the Al-Munawwarah grand mosque to the Trikora roundabout at km 15, and comes back along Jalan Palam Raya and Jalan Banua Praja Barat to the finish [2].
It is not flat. The map puts the start at 48 m, the high point at 59 m and the total climb at 104 m, with the highest ground around the middle of the race and the lowest a few kilometres from the end; the PASI measurement certificate describes the road as undulating [2][3]. PASI, Indonesia's athletics federation, measured the course in October 2023, and the certificate is valid until 5 November 2026, but any change to the course, however small, voids it [3]. The map is the one posted for 2026; no separate 2025 map could be found.
The Weather: Saturated Air and a Storm Nearby
Syamsudin Noor airport, in Banjarbaru about 8 km west of the start, recorded 25°C at 5am on race morning with a dew point of 25°C and 100% humidity [4]. At 5.30am it was 25°C with 94% humidity, a 5-knot wind and a thunderstorm reported in the vicinity [4]. The air stayed at 24°C to 25°C until 7.30am, then warmed to 26°C at 8am, 27°C at 9am and 29°C at 9.30am, around the time the half marathon closed [4].
A dew point of 24°C to 25°C means sweat barely evaporates, so pace for the air rather than the distance. From a 5.20am start, a two-hour half marathoner was finished by about 7.20am in 24°C to 25°C air; a runner near the four-hour limit spent the last hour at 26°C to 29°C.
Aid Stations and Cut-offs
The half-marathon map marks nine water stations, the first near km 2 and the last near km 17, plus sponge points near km 9 and km 14, water-dousing points near km 12 and km 16, and sprinklers on the run-in [2]. The LariKu race listing gave the same nine water stations for the half in 2025, with four on the 10 km and two on the 5 km [5]. After the finish there is water, an isotonic drink and bananas [6].
The limits are generous: four hours for the half, two for the 10 km and 90 minutes for the 5 km in 2025 [5], and the same for 2026, when the half also has one checkpoint at km 15 after 2 hours 45 minutes [7]. That checkpoint works out to 11 minutes per km. The listing gave 2025 start times of 5.20am for the half, 5.45am for the 10 km and 6am for the 5 km [5]; for 2026 the half starts at 5.15am [7]. Runners up to 10 minutes late may still start; later than that, they go off with the next race [7].
For 2026 the rules add a team of running doctors who run in every category [7].
Getting a Place
This is the hard part. For the 2025 race the first 3,000 places sold out in five minutes, and a second batch of 1,050 went in three [8]. The organiser said it had planned for 3,000 runners and expanded to 4,050 because of demand [9]. Runners came from across Kalimantan and from Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi and Papua [8].
For 2026 the organiser has raised the field to 6,500 places, more than 50% up on 2025 [10].
Race Weekend and the Rules
Race packs in 2025 were collected on 21 and 22 November at the Novotel ballroom in Banjarbaru [5]; for 2026 the dates are 30 and 31 October, with the venue to be confirmed [7]. The 2025 listing gave entry fees of Rp450,000 for the half, Rp350,000 for the 10 km and Rp150,000 or Rp200,000 for the 5 km; every finisher got a medal, and half-marathon finishers a finisher tee [5]. Baggage drop opens at 4am, and suitcases are not accepted [6].
Entries cannot be refunded or transferred [6]. Cash prizes go to the top five in each class and only to Indonesian citizens [7], and total prize money in 2025 was Rp385 million [8]. The FAQ says foreigners may enter [6], but the rules page describes the race as open to Indonesian citizens with Indonesian ID [7].
The race is managed by IdeaRun, which shares a 12-week training plan for beginners on social media and includes disabled and older people as runners and staff [1]. The 2025 race was streamed live on IdeaRun's YouTube channel [8].
Should You Enter the 2026 Race?
Yes, if you want a certified half marathon in Kalimantan with a generous limit and good aid, and you can be ready the moment entries open. The 10 km and 5 km suit newer runners, and many 2025 entrants were trying longer distances for the first time [9].
Think twice if you want a flat course or a fast time: the loop climbs 104 m in total [2]. If you are coming from abroad, prize money is for Indonesians only and the official pages disagree on whether foreigners may enter [7][6], so ask the organiser before you pay.
The 2026 race is on Sunday 1 November, with the half starting at 5.15am [7].
