The Course: From the Mall of Asia Grounds, Route Unpublished
All four races started and finished at the SM Mall of Asia grounds on Seaside Boulevard in Pasay [1][2]. Race Roster lists a single start time for the event, 3am [1]. The race pages carry no route map, no per-distance start times and no list of water stations [1][3][4]. The rules say parts of the route are closed to traffic on race day and point runners to the official road advisory and the city traffic advisories for details, and runners must stay inside the barriers, cones and markings [3][4].
The results point to a congested start in the 32K. Half the finishers crossed the start line within 88 seconds of the gun, but one in ten took more than 11 minutes, and the slowest almost 15 [5]. The rules disqualify anyone who has not started within 15 minutes of their flag-off [3], so get to your corral early.
The Weather: Rain, Then a Thunderstorm
Ninoy Aquino International Airport, about 5 km east-southeast of the start, recorded rain at 2am and light rain at 2.34am. At 3am, the listed start, it was 26°C with a dew point of 26°C, 100% humidity and a 5-knot wind [6]. From 4am to 6am it held at 27°C and 94% humidity, with light rain again at 6am. At 7.15am a light thunderstorm with rain passed through and the wind rose to 14 knots; it was still raining lightly at 8am, and 28°C by 9am [6]. The post-race report described the race as run in torrential rain [2].
A dew point of 26°C means the air was saturated. Sweat barely evaporates in air like that, so the body struggles to shed heat even though the thermometer never passed 28°C. The median 32K finisher took 4:24:59 [5]; if the 32K started at the listed 3am, a runner on that time was still out when the thunderstorm came through. The organiser reserves the right to delay, suspend or cancel the race for bad weather [3].
Plan for four hours of wet roads, wet shoes and saturated air, and pace for the humidity rather than the cool-feeling rain.
Cut-offs and Rules
The limits run from the official start: six hours for the 32K, four for the 21K, two for the 10K and one for the 5K. Only finishers inside the limit get a medal [3]. The results still list 74 32K finishers whose gun time was over six hours, the slowest in 6:08:56; 18 of them were over six hours on chip time too [5].
Top places are decided on gun time [3]. Runners in the 21K and 32K must be 18 or over [3]. Unofficial pacers are not allowed, and anyone who runs on someone else's bib is disqualified and suspended from later RUNRIO races [3]. Entries cannot be refunded, deferred or transferred [4]. Protests about results must be made in writing within an hour of the results being posted, with a ₱5,000 fee, and official results are uploaded two days after the race [3].
Why Leg 3 Matters: The 32K and the Marathon
The Trilogy Run is a series of three legs in each host city, with the distance rising each time, ending in a National Finals [1]. In Manila in 2026 the legs were a 16K on 15 March, a 21K on 17 May and the 32K on 6 September, with the finals, including a 42K, on 8 November [7]. Finishing the 16K, the 21K and the 32K, in any host city, is what qualifies you for the finals marathon [4].
RUNRIO's president, Rio de la Cruz, calls the 32K the distance where runners hit the wall, leaving 10K to a full marathon [8]. The top three in each age group in the 32K get medals [3]. At the series launch, the Daily Tribune reported that runners who complete all three legs and the finals get a running cap, and that top finishers in select age groups earn guaranteed places at the 2027 Sydney Marathon [8].
Fewer runners go the whole way. Manila's 16K in Leg 1 had 5,368 finishers and its 21K in Leg 2 had 3,918 [9][10]; the 32K had 2,735 [5].
How Fast the Field Is
Ricky Organiza won the men's 32K in 1:53:14, a second ahead of Kenya's Gilbert Muge on gun time; their chip times were identical [5]. Edsel Moral was third in 1:55:44 [2]. Then the field opens up: fourth place was 2:13:47 and tenth 2:24:08 [5]. Kenya's Pamela Chepkoech Bundotich won the women's race in 2:13:20 from Jessa Mae Roda (2:15:23) and Purity Serem (2:15:51) [2]; fourth was 2:16:31 and tenth 2:59:23 [5].
Further back, 130 of the 2,735 finishers broke three hours and 948 broke four. The median time was 4:24:59: 4:17:04 for men and 4:41:14 for women. Nine in ten finished inside 5:31:15 [5].
The 21K was small and thin at the front. Ritchie Estampador won by a second in 1:21:09 and Edna Magtubo won the women's race in 1:32:04, more than 18 minutes clear; tenth place was 1:50:25 for men and 2:03:14 for women, and the median was 3:02:17 [5]. The 10K was won in 32:15 and the 5K in 16:29 [2].
Field Size and Race Weekend Logistics
The 2026 race had 5,484 finishers across four distances [5], about half the size of the 2025 Manila Leg 3, held in July, which Philstar put at at least 12,000 runners and whose results list 11,153 finishers [11][12]. It was still by far the biggest Leg 3 of 2026: the 32Ks at the other four, in Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao, had between 216 and 421 finishers each [13][14][15][16].
The organiser recommends having your race kit delivered. On-site kit collection is announced on the Trilogy Run Asia Facebook page, usually at least three days beforehand, and you need your confirmation email and ID [4]. The race village has baggage counters, changing tents and portable toilets, and finisher items are collected at a redemption booth by showing your bib [4].
The 32K cost ₱2,400 early bird, ₱2,800 regular and ₱3,200 late, and the 21K ₱2,200 to ₱3,000, plus admin, web and delivery fees [4]. Every finisher gets a medal, towel and lootbag; only 21K and 32K finishers get a finisher's shirt [4]. The launch report said each city's finisher towels have their own design [8].
Should You Enter Manila Leg 3 in 2027?
Yes, if you live in or near Metro Manila, are working through the trilogy towards the finals marathon, and want a timed, supported 32K. With 2,735 finishers there are runners at every pace, and the six-hour limit leaves room for walk breaks.
Think twice if you want to study the route in advance, need a dry race, or are aiming for a fast time. The 2026 race was run in rain and 100% humidity, and the results show a long wait to cross the start line at the back of the 32K.
The 2027 dates and fees had not been published when this was written. In 2026 the three Manila legs ran in March, May and September [7].
